Desperadoes Waiting for a Train
Band Photo, circa 1973
What's this? I guess we'll see.I grew up in Connecticut. There is no rodeo there. We had trains, as you can see, but lonesome whistles did not blow. But then I moved to Texas and steeped myself in the music and the culture of that place and the American West more generally. Thank you, Howard Lamar!Rodeo fascinated me, as its own thing (wait, you do what??) but mostly as a subgenre of country music. I've leaned into the oddness inherent in me working in this milieu, hence RodeoConnecticut.I've also got some new songs that I'm about to record, and I thought it might be fun to document some of that process. Check out the blog below to see about that.About the photo: That's me with my rock and roll freeform FM DJ cousin Peggy Apple, our aunt, and our grandmother, at the Fairfield CT station, c. 1973. That line would have been the Penn Central at the time, ex-New York, New Haven & Hartford, but has been Metro-North's New Haven line since 1983. Yeah, you might have to put up with some of my railfan nerdery!
